The necessity of a sediment management plan in Nepal’s river basins is evident due to the multifaceted impacts of sedimentation on different water related subsectors. Sediment and its dynamics has led to frequent river channels shifting, aggradation, degradation and increase risk of floods resulting socio-economic consequences e.g. loss of life, property, infrastructure. Current interventions and practices in sediment management of river basins are project specific, uncoordinated, fragmented, reactive often addressing immediate problems and lack of long-term vision. Thus, WECS intends to prepare comprehensive framework regarding sediment management plan to provide a structured, standard and consistent approach for integrated management of sediment in river basins in Nepal.
